The architecture of Roman times is generally categorized into three distinct styles, the Classical, Oriental and Gothic. Each style has its own attributes and qualities that set it apart from others.
Romanesque architecture is a unique architectural style of ancient Europe characterized by small semi-circling arches. There is no agreement as to the exact date of the birth of the Romanesque style, with historical estimates ranging from the sixth to the tenth centuries. When combined with other styles of architectural ornamentation, such as the Roman Amphitheater, the design is considered to be a precursor to the Baroque. In some cases, the term was used to describe the style that evolved during the period when Florence was under the sway of the Medici family.
Another characteristic feature of the Romanesque style is the inclusion of natural features in its architecture. Although there is evidence that the style influenced the Neoclassicism, the influence was more of an artistic impression than of direct imitation. Instead, this influence resulted from a combination of elements from all three styles. The result is the ability to incorporate nature into architecture in ways that would not have been possible in the previous two styles.
As the popularity of the Romanesque style grew, so did the number of architects who were interested in using it in their architecture. Some were simply interested in incorporating the architecture in a single building, while others created entire buildings around the architectural style. These buildings are often referred to as “Romeesque”. Of course, there is much variation between these buildings, and they can range from the very intricate to the very simple.
When an architect decided to use the Roman style in building a building, he was taking an opportunity to apply the architectural features of the city to a structure that was intended for a larger purpose. This is one of the biggest differences between the Classical and Oriental styles. Whereas the Classical style usually has a purpose, it is often used for decorative purposes only. It is not intended to provide a practical function for everyday living. Because it is designed to add beauty to a building, a Classical style can be used to add additional living space or to provide an extra floor or wall for additional utility purposes.
Architectural structures of the Gothic and Oriental styles were also inspired by the Roman and were often constructed to fulfill a practical function as well as an aesthetic purpose. The Gothic style is characterized by strong angles and straight lines, whereas the Oriental uses many curves and rounded corners. The design is designed to enhance the building's functionality, rather than just add style to the exterior. Gothic architecture can be found in Gothic churches, cathedrals, ancient temples, castles and on the exterior of historic buildings.
Because Gothic architecture was so unique, it often requires much more effort and skill than other styles of architecture. While some people may prefer the more classic look of traditional Roman and Gothic architecture, others are more attracted to its unusual appearance, resulting in a mix of both styles.
Architectural features of the Gothic and Oriental styles are often similar, but they are constructed in different ways. The key difference is in the materials used. The traditional materials that are used in the Classic style include wood, marble, stone and brick; while the more ornate materials of Oriental architecture include tiles, carvings, ceramics and brick.
Another difference between Gothic and Oriental Romanesque is in the style of the roof. Gothic roofs tend to be smaller and feature rounded corners and straight lines; whereas the more ornate roofing in the Oriental style is built up, with curved lines and angles.
In addition to being more unique and distinctive than their counterparts, the differences between Gothic and Oriental architecture are not only aesthetically appealing, they also have practical applications. For example, Gothic architecture is designed to add an extra level of protection from the elements. and it also can be used to provide privacy to a building.
Gothic and Oriental architecture are two of the most widely used architectural styles in the world. They represent two different styles of architecture and represent two different eras of architecture in America. Their differences are reflected in their differences in architectural design, the materials used and in how they are designed to add protection to a building. Each style provides something unique and special to a building.
