Early 20th Century architecture is often referred to as art Deco or by the Italian name of Cubism. The term is a modern term to describe the style of architecture that was popular in the United States during the first part of the twentieth century and it has come to include some of the most striking works in the history of architecture. If you're thinking of building something in this style then you should be aware of the following architectural styles that are also popular in this period.
It is easy to see why some people have referred to this style as Art Nouveau, since it does have many similar characteristics to the latter style, but it was not actually named Art Deco until much later on, in the early 1920s. While the American style was initially popular, it is possible to think of it as a bit of a cross between what we know now, and the older style.
The American style of architecture is often considered to have a very distinctive look to it. Its main characteristics include a mix of elements, such as the use of wood, metal and tile. In many ways, it is also quite representative of the mid-20th Century style that was popular at the time.
Although you might not recognise it at first glance, you might well recognise some of the American style as Futurism. Although it started out in France, it spread across Europe and America, eventually taking its own name. This style was popular in many countries throughout Europe and the US at the time, and was in fact much more popular in the US than it is today.
It was the rise in the popularity of Futurism in the late part of the twentieth Century that led to the style's popularity being somewhat diluted over the last few decades. However, it has seen a revival in recent years due to the popularity of movies such as Blade Runner, which features a whole range of architecture in the same style.
The mid-century style was perhaps the most popular of all in the early part of the century, as it was a great example of how modern styles can be combined with old style. The styles that can be attributed to this era include Arts and Crafts, Classical and Bauhaus. Although the term “mid-century style” may not be well recognised today, it is a good thing that the architecture of this time period has managed to blend with that of the newer styles of architecture of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. So, if you're interested in building something that is reminiscent of the great days of history, why not try this?
