Tadao Ando has become one of the world's most celebrated and well respected architects. For many years, he has been regarded as one of the world's leading landscape architects. His method of landscape and architecture is often labeled as “critical localism.”
Tadao was born in Japan in 1916. At an early age, his father taught him that the important things in life are the places that we visit. This is because such places offer you and your family a chance to express your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. After graduating from the Tokyo Imperial University of Fine Arts in 1933, Tadao studied for two years at the Academy of Fine Arts of Beijing, China.
After his studies, Tadao was recruited by the prestigious Tokyo Institute of Architecture. It was here where he met and befriended an architect named Masamitsu Takagi. The two men were influenced by the works of Renzo Piano and were very much interested in the art. They became devoted to the work of Renzo Piano and spent a large part of their lives studying it. Eventually, these two men created their own version of Renzo Piano's “The Garden Pavilion” in Tokyo.
From his time at Tokyo Institute of Architecture, Tadao and Takagi began to travel extensively across Asia. During this period, the two men had the opportunity to study the architecture of various countries including Mexico, Egypt, and France. Through these travels, Tadao and Takagi were able to come up with their own style of architecture that is unique to Japan.
From his travels, Tadao learned that the people in Japan were very much into nature. When he returned to Tokyo to join the institute, he and Takagi were surprising to see that the Japanese people had abandoned the use of concrete in their construction projects.
Through this experience, Tadao and Takagi developed the concept of minimalist architecture, which is more like Japanese traditional architecture than anything else. Instead of using large spaces, they prefer to create small rooms by using natural materials and using simple designs that can be customized to fit in a large space.
Tadao and Takagi's minimalist style of architecture are best described as being “open-air.” Tadao and Takagi believe that this approach gives the interiors of houses a sense of intimacy and open-space.
In his work, Tadao and Takagi prefer to use large windows for light to enter the rooms as well as large porches and verandas for shade. Large walls and large trees can also be found to give a serene feel to large spaces.
The open-air homes are usually located on a hillside somewhere in the countryside. There is usually ample space for the inhabitants to walk around freely as long as there are not too many people. However, it is more common to have a balcony in the living room for those who want a little more freedom to sit and relax. A garden or small park is also an option to use to make it a little more private.
Open-air homes do require maintenance. Cleaning and repairing will be required on a regular basis.
Tadao and Takagi, however, have been very successful in providing these open-air homes to residents in Tokyo. Their work has been so well received that several large hotels are now built in their honor.
Tadao and Takagi have also designed other buildings such as office buildings and apartment buildings in Tokyo. Many people think of these buildings as being modeled after the Japanese Shibuya District. However, they have been designed very differently than any other style of Japanese office building. These buildings are smaller than traditional buildings and are designed to give more living space for employees.
These buildings are very modern, sleek and clean. These buildings also have very little interior design. Most of them are very much suited for employees who work alone and do not need a lot of extra space.

Don't hate those who say bad things to bring you down, because they are the ones who make you stronger every day. Just because other people don't do us good doesn't mean we should respond in the same way. One of the best things in life is seeing the smiles on your parents' faces, and realizing that you are the reason.
