5 Reliable Sources To Learn About Erte Artist | Erte Artist

A little known part of modern art history is that of the erstwhile Erte Artist. Romain De Tirtoff was an Italian-born Frenchman and artist known as the name Ertée, in the common French spelling of his original names. The name was chosen by him, because it was more familiar to his native tongue than 'Etro'.

Erotic art was not common in Italy when Etrus came to it. He was born in the early eighties of the last century and had been at work in Paris since he was nineteen years old. He found his artistic inspiration in various aspects of life. Most of these were sexual in nature; specifically he drew inspiration from women, especially from the erotic paintings of Verlaine and Monet.

The style of the Erte artists is quite different from today's more popular forms of expressionism. In fact it was an evolution of sorts, with each artist having a distinct style and personality.

The style of Etrus was to use the most minimal of materials and the greatest of color schemes and techniques. Some of the most popular works of Etrus are the pieces which feature delicate, colorful and simple figures, whereas other pieces have highly elaborate and complex designs.

The most popular painting of Etrus was entitled 'A Man' and it was also painted in the most rudimentary form. The painting was commissioned by the Marquis de Sade in 1793 and it showed the Marquis' lover naked on a bed with several of Sade's followers, all dressed in the most primitive and conservative costumes possible for such an occasion.

The 'Man' is an example of Etrus' more traditional style. Other works of Etrus, including a painting entitled 'The Seclusion of the Adonis' also showed characters from Greek Mythology. Etrus 'Sorcerer' was another famous painting and was commissioned by Queen Marie Antoinette. In this work Etrus again chose a theme of nude women, this time two kneeling in front of a large stone image of the Virgin Mary.

Another famous Etrus' painting that was also commissioned by Queen Marie Antoinette is 'The Fountains of Luca'. It was an elaborate portrait which took over two weeks to complete. This is also a very colorful and detailed painting.

Etrus was a prolific artist, making over sixty-five paintings of all types during his lifetime. Most of these were commissioned portraits and included beautiful, elaborate scenes of classical Italian cities, but also many other locations as well. Some of his paintings even featured people from the history of the city of Rome.

If you are looking to purchase a piece of artwork of Etrus, you can find some excellent reproductions and many of his paintings are on sale on the internet today. Many of his masterpieces can also be purchased through Etrus Gallery and Etrus Art Gallery has a large collection of Etrus paintings. The price range for Etrus' paintings can range from very inexpensive to extremely expensive, depending on quality and rarity.
