Ancient Greek architecture began in the Athenian period of the 4th millennium BC, which was the height of the ancient Greek civilization. The period of the early Hellenistic period, which is the second phase of the civilization, is also known as the Hellenistic period.

Classical Greek architecture evolved from the city-state of Athens, which was founded by the Athenians, a city of the most prominent city-states on earth at the time. Ancient Greek architecture originated from the Athenian city-state, which was based on the island of Crete, which is in the Mediterranean Sea. Athenian architecture evolved from this location, as did the other city-states of the Hellenistic period.

Byzantine architecture was highly influenced by Greek art. Its use of natural materials and a sophisticated form of decoration made it highly attractive, especially to the Greeks and to their neighbors in the Middle East.

Byzantine architecture is also considered to be the last form of Greek civilization, as it is closely linked to Christian architecture. It incorporates Christian symbols, colors, religious elements, as well as Greek crafts in order to give it a new and unique look.

The fourth and the fifth classical periods of Greek architecture are the Eleventh Century and the Twentieth Century, both of which were periods of revival of ancient Greek architectural styles. The late antique period was also the time of the renaissance, which is an architectural style that is characterized by the inclusion of new and innovative features. The style of the Roman columns was one that was greatly influenced by Art Nouveau and the Roman architecture. The late antique period of architecture can be considered as a time of artistic experimentation that paved the way for the Renaissance style that was to come later.

The eighteenth and the nineteenth centuries are the golden ages of Classical architecture, and the period that marked the end of the Roman style of architecture and the beginning of Art Nouveau architecture.
